The Premise: Based on a true story, Hustlers stars Constance
Wu (in her first film role since breaking out in Crazy Rich Asians) as Destiny,
a single mom who turns to stripping as a way to support her family. At the strip
club, she meets Ramona (played by Jennifer Lopez), a seductive dancer popular
with the rich Wall Street bankers who frequent the club. When simple stripping
won’t make them enough money, the women embark on a scheme to scam the bankers
and make everything they deserve… and more.
The 100 Words: High expectations probably ruined this film
for me as strong buzz had me expecting it to be an Oscar contender. When Hustlers
was only a good-but-not-great film, I felt let down. Wu and JLo are believable
and likeable here, but the other characters are a waste, including one stripper
friend who’s only role is to puke on camera over and over again. There are some
nice moments of humor, but the story never soars or goes anywhere unexpected.
Hustlers is a bit like a visit to a strip club, tantalizing with potential but ultimately
unsatisfying and forgettable.

When I was unable to conceive I had blood tests for fertility and was told that I had an FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) of 54 and would not be able to have children.
