JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: Mortal Kombat 2

 Ridiculous... and kinda fun

Film critic Jason Evans is here to tell you everything you need to know about movies in less time than it takes to throw a knockout punch. His reviews are exactly 100 words long (99 is too short, while 101 is just excessive). Here is his 100-word review of Mortal Kombat 2.

The Premise: The Earth is in peril. The evil ruler of the Outworld, Shao Kahn, has decided it will be the next realm for him to conquer. The rules of the gods are that he and his Outworld champions must defeat a group of Earth champions. Aging action movie star Johnny Cage (Karl Urban from The Boys and the Star Trek films) doesn’t know about any of this, so he is shocked when he is selected to be one of Earth’s defenders. Things look grim for the Earthrealm… until a surprising ally steps forward.

The 100-words: Video games rarely make good movies because there is little story to fall back upon. This flick is ridiculous and incomprehensible at times. But every time I would mutter, “this is terrible…” I would also think “…but I’m kinda enjoying it.” MK2 is not a good film, but it is a pretty amusing one. The fights are well done and feature some truly outrageous, gory kill-shots. Urban is just a fun hang and does a great job of bringing humor to his scenes. The absolutely isn’t for everyone, but fans of the game will get a kick out of it.
