JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: Disney+ TV series Loki

One of Marvel’s best characters gets his own series to shine

Critic Jason Evans has made it his mission to tell you everything you need to know about movies and TV in exactly 100 words (not 99, not 101). Here is his 100-word review of the Disney+ TV series Loki.

Note: Disney provided me with the first two episodes of Loki for review. These comments reflect on those episodes only and not on the entire 6-episode first season of Loki.

The Premise: When Earth’s mightiest heroes went back in time in Avengers: Endgame, they accidentally broke the timeline by allowing Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to escape. Loki is almost immediately apprehended by the Time Variance Authority, a sprawling bureaucracy that is responsible for maintaining the proper flow of time. This “variant” version of Loki is about to be “reset” when a TVA detective named Mobius (Owen Wilson) says he needs Loki’s help. Mobius thinks Loki can help him solve the mystery of who is attacking and killing TVA agents across the timeline.

The 100-words: A delightful combination of cop drama and wry comedy, Loki will go alongside Wandavision as a buzzable Disney+ hit for Marvel. Hiddleston’s Loki has always been the most compelling villain in the MCU and giving him all the screen time does nothing to diminish his charisma. He and Wilson have good chemistry and their banter is fun. There’s a lot of talking and not much action, but that’s ok because we need time to absorb the complex twists and turns of the plot. I’m betting most of you will join me in being eager to see where this heads next.
