JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: The Lost City

 Vapid, but sorta fun

Film Critic Jason Evans is on a mission to tell you everything you need to know about movies in less time than it takes to read the back cover of a romance novel. His reviews are exactly 100 words (not 99, not 101). This is his 100 word review of The Lost City.

The Premise – Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock) is a successful romance novelist who includes little pieces of real history in her tales. Her books all feature a charming hero named Dash. The covers of her books all feature a dimwitted model named Alan (Changing Tatum) portraying Dash. When Loretta is kidnapped by a billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe) in search of a real artifact included in her latest book, Alan decides he wants to actually become Dash and he sets off to rescue her. The film also features Da'Vine Joy Randolph (Dolemite is My Name) as Loretta’s publisher and has a cameo by Brad Pitt as a former CIA agent who helps Alan to find Loretta.

The 100 Words – This film is campy, obvious, and never comes close to have a real point other than somewhat silly humor. There are no lessons learned or surprising character revelations. But, I found myself laughing out loud numerous times and I did have fun watching it. Bullock looks great for age 57, but she is 57 and these kind of roles may not be in her wheelhouse for much longer. Tatum is basically playing a stupider, less athletic version of his 21 Jump Street character. There’s nothing memorable or meaningful here, but if you think you might like it, you probably will.
