JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: Furiosa

 A brilliant Fury Road prequel

Film critic Jason Evans has made it his mission to tell you everything you need to know about movies in less time than it takes to flip a motorcylce. His reviews are exactly 100 words long (99 is too short and 101 is excessive). Here is his 100-word review of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

The Premise: Legendary filmmaker George Miller returns to the Mad Max universe with the tale of how a young girl turned into the badass Furiosa that we saw in Fury Road. The film spans about 15 years of Furiosa’s life (Anya Taylor-Joy plays adult Furiosa while Alyla Brown plays her as a child)  as we see her abducted from the Green Place and taken away by the warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth). Eventually, Furiosa is traded to rival warlord Immortan Joe and finds herself playing a key role in the battle between the two men who each hope to control the badlands. Furiosa desperately wants revenge on Dementus and never gives up home of returning to her peaceful homeland.

The 100-words: With the same eye-popping visual style (and stunts) that won numerous awards for Fury Road, this wonderful prequel is full of emotion and action. Taylor-Joy conveys all the anger of Furiosa while barely uttering a word. Hemsworth clearly had fun with the manic insanity of Dementus. The film may not be quite as propulsive as Fury Road and misses the side characters that gave that film more heft, but is still a great time at the movies guaranteed to make you gasp and cheer again and again. Please Hollywood, give George Miller all the money to make more of these!
