JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: Twisters

 Partly cloudy but still fun

Film critic Jason Evans is on a mission to spread the word about movies in less time than it takes to jump into a ditch for cover. His reviews are exactly 100 words long (99 is too short and 101 is excessive). Here is his 100-word review of Twisters.

The Premise: More of a cousin than a sequel, this film is set in the same universe as the 1996 classic but follows its own path with completely new characters who are not connected to the original film. It tells the story of Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones), a meteorology expert with incredible instincts about storms. After a tragic incident, she gives up storm chasing until her old friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) lures her back into the game. She soon finds herself teaming up with an internet-famous “tornado wrangler” named Tyler (Glen Powell) as they try to figure out if there is a way to tame a tornado.

The 100-words: Despite Powell’s star power and charisma, the film centers on Edgar-Jones, who spends much of the time brooding and looking worried. The script is tame and follows a “color by numbers” approach of doing everything an action flick is supposed to do with very few surprises (and not enough laughs). But, the action is relentless and the CGI puts you right inside the tornados. Worth seeing in a theater as the booming sound will shake your seat and make you feel like you are there. Though not a great flick, this is still a decently fun time at the movies.
