JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: The Wild Robot

Beautiful and emotional

Film critic Jason Evans is on a mission to spread the word about movies in less time than it takes to wipe a tear from your cheek. His reviews are exactly 100 words long (99 is too brief and 101 is a mouthful). Here is his 100-word review of The Wild Robot.

The Premise: When a robot (voiced by Lupita Nyong’o of Black Panther and The Walking Dead) designed to help make human life easier crashes on a remote island full of animals, it must learn to adapt to a different type of client. The robot soon finds itself playing mother to an orphaned duckling while also befriending a lonely fox (voiced by Pedro Pascal from The Mandalorian and The Last of Us). The film is written and directed by Chris Sanders, writer of Mulan and Lilo & Stitch, and the writer/director of How to Train Your Dragon.

The 100-words: This emotional story of parenting and finding common ground is easily one of the best animated films of the past decade. It pulls you in quickly and had me wiping tears from my eyes multiple times during the back half. The film is gorgeous to look at with the animation artists choosing a painting-like quality rather than attempting to make everything look real. The film hearkens back to the best quality of early Pixar films, with a story that will work for kids and adults. It is rare that I say this, but this film is a must-see for EVERYONE!
