JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: The Naked Gun

 Comedy makes a comeback!

Film critic Jason Evans has made it his mission to tell you about movies in less time than it takes to get a cup of coffee. His reviews are exactly 100 words long (99 doesn’t tell you enough and 101 is just excessive). Here is his 100-word review of The Naked Gun.

The Premise: Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson) is a no-nonsense detective in Police Squad. He gets the job done even if it means breaking some rules and killing some perps along the way. When he gets in trouble for botching a bank robbery case, he is assigned to what appears to be a simple car accident. But when Beth (Pamela Anderson), the sister of the man killed in the accident, insists there is more here than meets the eye, Frank finds his investigation growing… and his feelings for Beth growing too. The film also stars Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, and Danny Huston. It is written and directed by SNL veteran Akiva Schaffer (Popstar, Hot Rod, The Lonely Island music group).

The 100-words: Silly, slapstick, and hysterical, The Naked Gun is a worthy sequel to the classic original. With more than a joke a minute, not everything lands, but enough do for you to be laughing almost non-stop. Neeson beautifully captures the mix of bravado and buffoonery that makes Frank Drebin such an icon and the rest of the cast has their share of funny moments as well. Turn off your brain and let the absurdity wash over you. This is the kind of comedy worth seeing in a theater so your laughs will be amplified by the howls from those around you.
