JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: The Devil Wears Prada 2

Sadly Uninspired

Film critic Jason Evans has made it his mission to tell you everything you need to know about movies in less time than it takes to try on a hat. His reviews are exactly 100 words long (99 is too short, while 101 is just excessive). Here is his 100-word review of The Devil Wars Prada 2.

The Premise: When journalist Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) finds herself out of a job, she is surprised when an offer comes for her to be the features editor for Runway magazine, which is overseen by her former boss Miranda Priestly (Maryl Streep). But Runway is in trouble too, facing a scandal and declining interest from the public. Andy and Miranda will need help from their old colleague, Emily (Emily Blunt), if they are to save Runway from its corporate overlords. The film also stars Stanley Tucci, Kenneth Branaugh, and Lucy Liu.

The 100-Words: Though lovers of the original will probably ignore its flaws, this film is a bit of a slog. Andy is poorly conceived, so desperate for Miranda’s approval that it is hard to watch. Miranda’s endless stream of barbs and put-downs aren’t nearly as funny this time around. And Emily cannot decide if she is evil or a hero. There’s no one to root for or enjoy being around. Add in a needless plot about Andy’s boyfriend and the whole thing becomes quite tedious. The switch from a fashion to journalism focus doesn’t land well either. I had hoped for more.
