Fast-paced, funny, and thrilling
Film critic Jason Evans has made it his mission to tell you everything you need to know about movies faster than a jump scare can knock you out of your seat. His reviews are exactly 100 words long (because 99 leave you wanting more, but 101 is unnecessary verbosity). Here is his 100-word review of Resident Evil.
The Premise:
Bryan (Austin Abrams - Weapons, Euphoria) is a medical currier hired to deliver
a package to the hospital in Raccoon City. When his car runs into trouble on
the road, he suddenly finds himself in increasingly harrowing (and gory) encounters
with people who have been infected by a mutating virus. Bryan soon realizes
that turning back is impossible and he must deliver his package if he wants to
survive. The film is written and directed by Zach Cregger, who won raves for
Weapons last year.
The 100-words:
Cregger is a major rising star in the directing world. This film may be the
best video game adaptation of all time, with stellar camera work and
cinematography that put you right into the action. A tense, 90-minute thrill
ride that never lets up but includes enough doses of humor to give the audience
a breath. The jump scares and gore are straight out of the horror playbook, but
Cregger never falls into the trap of picking scares over engagement. It won’t
be for everyone, but folks who can take the blood and guts are in for a real
treat.
