JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: Tenzing

A Stunning Spectacle

Film critic Jason Evans has made it his mission to tell you everything you need to know about movies faster than it takes to warm your fingers by the fire. His reviews are exactly 100 words long (because 99 leave you wanting more, but 101 is just plain wordy). Here is his 100-word review of Tenzing.

The Premise: The world knows the name of Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to scale Mt. Everest in 1953. But, do you know the name of the Nepalese man who also reached the top of the world alongside Hillary? Tenzing Norgay’s life is a remarkable tale of conquering racism and prejudice to become the best climber in the world. This biopic of his life stars Tom Hiddleston as Hillary, Willem Dafoe as the leader of the Everest mission, and Tibetan actor Genden Phuntsok as Norgay. It is directed by acclaimed documentary filmmaker Jennifer Peedom.

The 100-words: With stunning scenery and a thrilling tale of conquering the odds, Tenzing is a cinematic triumph. You will truly feel like you are atop Everest. But the scenery is not the only thing to praise here as the entire cast brings humanity and emotion to their characters. There are a couple moments where Norgay’s life story lags a little bit but they quickly fade every time we return to the daunting mountain. It is a real pity Apple is only giving this a brief, limited theatrical run before streaming as it is a film worth absorbing on a huge screen.
