Palm Springs is a time-looping romcom that's a great escape in these pandemic times.
The Premise: Palm Springs is basically "Groundhog Day" but at a wedding. Nyles (Andy Samberg) is stuck in a time loop, reliving the same day over and over again with no hope of it ever ending. The day he is stuck inside of is his girlfriend's sister's wedding. Nyles' effort to seduce the maid of honor, Sarah (Cristin Milioti from "How I Met Your Mother" and the "USS Calliser" episode of "Black Mirror"), backfires when Sarah is also caught in the time loop. Can they find a way out and do they even want to?
The 100 Words: As much a story of the human condition as it is a comedy, Palm Springs is a smart and funny romcom that, sadly, won't get seen by enough people on Hulu. Milioti and Samberg have great chemistry and their journey really says something about what we want out of life. I was impressed that the film found a new spin on the time loop concept. It isn't perfect, there are some plot points that don't 100% work, but it is pretty solid and has enough heart and charm that we can forgive its faults. I'd watch it again and again.
