JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: Chaos Walking

Not as bad as expected, but still uninspiring

You don’t have time to waste on long-winded film reviews, so critic Jason Evans is here to give you everything you need to know in exactly 100 words. Here is his 100-word review of Chaos Walking.

The Premise – Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) lives on a planet colonized by humans. His colony has no women and something about the planet causes the thoughts of the men to be broadcast for others to hear, something they call “noise.” One day, Todd discovers a ship from Earth has crash landed. The only survivor of the crash is Viola (Daisy Ridley), the first woman Todd has seen since he was a baby. But, the mayor of the colony (Mads Mikkelsen) thinks Viola is his key to ruling the entire planet, forcing Todd and Viola to go on the run for their lives.

The 100 Words – With multiple reshoots and reedits, I knew this film would be a mess. I was expecting a train wreck but it wasn’t that awful. The cast is strong and there was enough action and suspense to largely hold my attention, even if it was quite predictable. Still, the story is a head scratcher with lots of ideas that are introduced but never fully explored. It feels like they wanted to make a few different films but ended up ramming everything together in the hope it would work… it didn’t. Save money and wait for it to show up on cable.
