JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: F9, The Fast Saga

Aimless action, what else did you expect?

Film critic Jason Evans doesn’t want to waste your time with long-winded discussion about movies. So, he cuts to the chase by providing a critical opinion in exactly 100 words. Here is his 100-word review of F9.

The Premise: In a story told both in the present and in flashbacks, we learn about the relationship of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his estranged brother Jakob (John Cena). The flashbacks center around the death of the boy’s father in a car racing accident. The present day action involves Jakob’s efforts to steal a device that can be used to control all the high tech weapons on the planet. Dom and his crew (Michelle Rodriquez, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, and Jordanna Brewster) jet all over the planet, in all kinds of vehicles, in an effort to stop Jakob.

The 100 Words: Though I am not a fan of this franchise, these films do sometimes produce jaw dropping action sequences. But this edition felt tired and seemed more computer generated than usual. F9 makes such a mockery of the laws of physics that it is impossible to be impressed, you know nothing on screen is real. There is less levity and humor than usual, it almost seems like the players actually think the gobbledygook they are saying means something. I know F9 will print money but if you are not well steeped in this franchise’s history, you are going to be lost.
