JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: The Adam Project

Cute… maybe a little too cute

Film Critic Jason Evans is here to tell you everything you need to know about movies so quickly that you won’t have to worry about time travel to get the rest of your day done. His reviews are exactly 100 words (not 99, not 101). This is his 100 word review of The Adam Project.

The Premise – 12 year old Adam Reed (Walker Scobell) is leading a tough life. His physicist father died a couple years ago and he is constantly bullied in school. His relationship with his mother (Jennifer Garner) isn’t exactly going well either. One day a space ship crashes in the woods near his house and the man who comes out of it is a time-traveling version of Adam from 20 years in the future (Ryan Reynolds) pops out. Older Adam is buff, good with women, and supremely confident. He tells the younger version of himself that the two of them must work together to prevent a businesswoman named Sorian (Catherine Keener) from destroying the future. The film is directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Free Guy) and also stars Zoe Saldana as future-Adam’s wife and Mark Ruffalo as Adam’s father.

The 100 Words – The always magnetic Reynolds does action comedy as well as anyone and Scobell deserves real kudos for nicely mimicking Reynolds’ mannerisms and cadence. The cast oozes with charisma, and that’s a good thing because the script is more interested in quips than quality storytelling. Time travel is always a dicey plot device as it often raises more questions than answers and this is a script that starts to fall apart if you think about it too much. Still, it is an easy watch, even if it is a movie you are unlikely to think about very much after it is gone.
