JASON EVANS' 100-WORD REVIEWS: John Wick: Chapter 4

 Another wild Wick masterpiece

Film critic Jason Evans has made it his mission to tell you everything you need to know about movies in less time than it takes to reload a Glock 34. His reviews are exactly 100 words long (99 would be too short, but 101 is just excessive). Here is his 100-word review of John Wick: Chapter 4.

The Premise: The film picks up shortly after the last Wick flick ended, with John (Keanu Reeves) still battling the assassin chieftains of the High Table. Even though he hunts down and kills members of the High Table, they just get replaced and their assassins just keep coming after him. Wick eventually figures out that if he can challenge a member of the table to one-on-one combat, he will be free if he wins. The man he must challenge is the Marquis de Gramont (Bill Skarsgard) and the Marquis has plenty of tricks up his sleeve, including hiring Caine (Donnie Yen), an old friend of Wick who may be the greatest assassin of all time. Chapter 4 also stars Ian McShane and Laurence Fishburn as John Wick’s allies. This almost 3-hour film is directed by Chad Stahelski, the man behind each of the previous 3 Wick films.

The 100-Words: Another stellar action flick with some of the most beautiful and creative stunts/fights in cinema. Despite the run-time, the story actually makes more sense than previous Wick entries. But, who cares about the story, we are here for insanely choreographed fight sequences. One scene, featuring Wick using incendiary rounds in an extended no-cut single-take, is jaw-dropping. You need to ignore that Wick’s world has a different sense of physics (he should break every bone in his body numerous times) but that isn’t hard at this point. Like last summer’s Top Gun, this is why we need big-screen theaters. Thanks, Keanu!
